Now…where was I….

Another week flown by…I’m sure there’s many, many things I’ve got to update on here…(”time for your pills old man”…R) Where to start…

Farming Today

Just as the farming community was reconciling itself to another “Foot and Mouth” outbreak along comes Blue Tongue disease to deal another blow. Now classed as an outbreak, I can’t help feeling nothing but sympathy for the farmers. Without their damn hard work we’d not have a farming industry. It must be soul destroying to see their herds destroyed before time due to something they had no control over.
Footballing Fantasy

Pagham started the week with a 2-1 home defeat against Arundel…but all came right yesterday when they Won 4-1 at Lingfield To top it all, an amazing game at Fratton Park saw Portsmouth win 7-4 against Reading The irony of that last link to the BBC sports pages is that although we got top billing on Match of the Day, all they could talk about after the highlights was Reading. “We are Pompey and no one likes us” (well not the BBC anyway)

The inevitable “Halo 3″ mention…
Read about “Halo 3″ in OXM Magazine and was slightly thrilled. As I’ve mentioned before the PC incarnations of “Halo” have left me distinctly underwhelmed, and although it’s a “killer app” on the ‘360, I was much, much more immature in my excitement over the review of Pro Gotham Racing 4 which looks the proverbial “Dogs Danglies”. Having played the demo of “Wip3out” clone Fatal Inertia and discovering I found it just as unplayable as it’s elder twin (although the graphics are picturesque), I wanted a new challenge. PGR 4 might just be that challenge.

Much more fun to be had in the PC demo of “Diablo” clone LOKI There’s nothing more satisfying after a long day at work than coming home and wandering round dark forests twatting goblins and elves round the head with a great big axe. It’s simple fare, but then so was Diablo 2 which I found to be great fun. There’s even the odd big bear in it (”ooh good. I like big bears”…R)

Radio Days…

A sobering thought that I’m the same age as BBC Radio 1,2,3 and 4…still, it has its compensations…listened to the Kenny Everett show on radio 2 earlier on. Can I apologise to anyone who saw me on the A259 with an inane grin as I drove along. Blame Mr Everett. Comedy genius. Only people who come close these days for me are Steve Wright, Chris Evans and (at a (very big) push), Chris Moyles.

“The Shout outs”

…make a return after being away for too long…

Racheal….hope you feel better soon…can’t have you losing yer voice so close to your birthday.

“Titch & Mr Titch”….have a superb time in France. Looking forward to getting lost in Sussex and Surrey on Saturdays when you return

Scott…it was a pint per goal we bet on the Pompey Vs Reading games wasn’t it ?!

Ed, Nige and Racheal (Again)…ok, I give in…i’ll be your friend on Facebook.

Sporting Hat-trick…

A tale of woe in sporting matters since I was last here…the trip to Guildford City was in vain…with a 2-1 win Guildford ensured the Lions are going to have to wait another year to get back on the Wembley trail. Not our best performance, but the tannoy announcer was unintentionally hilarious…The England ladies football team crashed out 3-0 to the USA ladies team at the World cup. And finally, England crashed out of the Cricket 20-20 World Cup when South Africa beat New Zealand. The only glimmer of hope came with England’s Rugby Union team winning against the mighty Western Samoa yesterday…
Congratulations to Sussex County Cricket Club who won the county championship yesterday. As a Hampshire fan it just about finished off a rubbish sporting weekend…
Scientifically speaking…

One from the “Told you so” files…it’ll come as no surprise to anyone in the UK to find that their internet connection is nowhere near as quick as they think it is. I was trying to explain this to someone at work the other day when they maintained that they had an “8MBps” connection…turns out it’s nowhere near that, and could be as low as 2.7MBps. I’ve given up whingeing to my ISP about my slow connection, as I now think it’s up to the ISPs to get together with the authorities to ensure our telephony system can support the bandwidth we need.

The relative disappointment that is the “Playstation 3″ continues…now Sony have announced that Playstation 3 Home has been delayed. The equivalent of Microsoft’s X-Box Live, allowing users to link up across the interweb. In my humble opinion, with the PS3 still being overpriced and many people still preferring the older Xbox 360 over the PS3 (see here amongst other places), Sony don’t look to be able to repeat the success of the PS2.

Comedy Central

Watched series 1 of Spoons this afternoon. Brilliantly funny.

Heroic Efforts

Just starting to get into Heroes on BBC2. It’s been a “slow burner” for me, but with the explanation of the characters’ histories the other night, all has become clearer. Not a patch on the “X-Files”, but a decent enough evening’s viewing nevertheless
