Flaming June !

Friday, June 29th, 2007

With the promise of more bad weather over the weekend, I’m thinking of those affected by the flooding, most especially JAN -I can only imagine how the possible breaking of the dam in Rotherham dominated her thoughts.

With that and all this other blanket coverage of Tony Blair’s resignation , I’m sick of hearing about it. He’s gone, lets move on. Although I’ve always been “left of centre” in my politics, I’ve had enough of the fawning over the first “President” we’ve had in my lifetime. Britain is NOT a republic, and rightly so. The spin, and deceit and other shenanigans has driven me into a definite “don’t know” situation once the next election comes around.

In a rather disconcerting turn of events, Pagham FC’s pre-season friendlies have been announced…

In technology news, the release of Apple’s i-Phone has geeks all over the world wetting themselves. Have you seen the price of these things ? $500 (£250) or $600 (£300) for a handset that doesn’t have 3G, no instant messaging and no ability to install new ringtones. Not to mention the $60 (£30) a month it costs to have the contract with A T & T (compulsory and additional to the cost of the phone). Pah ! It’s the Blackberry 8707V for me every time.

Cricket, lovely cricket….

The highlight of what has been a superb weekend was undoubtedly the trip to a rain-sodden Brit Oval for the 20-20 game between Surrey and Hampshire….”Chelsea Phil” had arranged cheapo train tickets and a row of seats at the Oval to be taken up by myself and five of Phil’s mates….we took the train up to London….got inside the ground (having missed out on the chance of being body searched by some very nice female security ladies)…and when we got to our seats…my first view of the Oval in all its glory was…

Things did improve and we did get some cricket though (just enough for us not to be able to get a refund on our soggy tickets!). A good time was had by all, and many laughs were had at the (sadly) inept Hampshire batting…although Surrey didn’t do themselves many favours early on…nevertheless a great day out (and I highly recommend the steak and stilton pasties sold just outside the entrance to the stands), and looking forward to doing it all again at Hove in a couple of weeks.

I also went over to “Cricket Mike” on Friday night for a barbecue round at his place…many fine bottles of ales were sampled (and if “R” is reading this…I was driving, so I was careful !) and Mike proved himself a dab hand with the sausage tongs. Also got the chance to catch up with a couple of people I’d not seen for a while (quick mentions to “Little Clare”, Neil and Alexei the speed-freak).
