Derby Day !

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

So….Derby County won the “£60 Million Match” yesterday - much was the celebrating in our house…everyone else because Derby had won, and myself because either team in the play-off final would have been an easy match for Pompey….

Preparations at “Castle Dunworking” are moving on with regards to the big barbecue bash I’ve got planned in a couple of weeks. Got friends and family round for a celebration as there was quite a few who weren’t around for my 40th back in March (yes, “R”, that’s “40″, not “105″….

the website for my PC repairs sideline has started to take shape - very, very early days as yet, and I’ll develop it over the next couple of weeks or so. Work in that line has gone quiet over the summer, so I’ve got time to fine-tune things ready for the pre- and post- Christmas rush. Ditto the Pagham FC site.

I’m also hoping to get permission to put my most important website commission on line soon as well. Although my websites might be viewed by the “techies” amongst you as being somewhat primitive, the fact is I maintain that they do what they’re supposed to do, and are easy to update given how I’ve put them together.

And finally….the weather here has been excellent today…It couldn’t have been like this over the Bank Holiday weekend could it ?! Gah !

Weather report
It’s a bank holiday, so it must be raining ! As promised by the weather forecasters, it’s hardly stopped raining over the last couple of days….but never mind all that…it’s given me a chance to add a slideshow to the Pagham FC site. With that done I can now think what to change elsewhere - here included.

Confusion on the High Seas
“R in her Ka” went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 last night…and she thought it was a little convoluted. Which is also the impression I get from the reviews I’ve read for it. I’ll wait for the DVD.

Decided it was high time I updated my MAME 32 . For those that don’t know, MAME 32 is a superb little program that acts as an arcade emulator for literally thousands of arcade games. Whilst the legality of downloading the ROMS is obviously a “grey area”, if you choose to download these games and accept the legal risks, a good time can be had with games that, whilst not always cutting edge, are fun. Too often these days I’ve played games which have had all the graphical bells and whistles, but have about as much longevity as a Mayfly.

Turning Turtle
Was reading this morning that Turtles are appearing more in British coastal waters . Living as I do, right on the coast, I will keep an eye out for these graceful creatures. People are starting to put this down to global warming. I was discussing this with Dad earlier today. The earth’s climate appears to go in cycles - we’ve had an Ice Age or two, France had massive floods hundreds of years ago apparently, and there’s been periods even last century when the average temperature was higher in England than it is now.

It’s all very well blaming pollution, but what about the gasses released by the various volcanic eruptions in recent years (Mount St Helens, Mount Pinatabu) ? As for the new fashion for wind farms…don’t get me started…not only are these eyesores on the landscape, they’re very inefficient - how do you think the power is produced when the wind doesn’t blow ? Yes, that’s right, we resort to good old-fashioned power stations. It’s nuclear power all the way for me - clean, renewable, and the scare-mongering over nuclear waste is far and above the real risks.

Ramming home the advantage.
Tomorrow Alan and myself will be stuck in front of the TV at 2pm sharp to see Derby County attempt to join Portsmouth in the Premiership. I’m sure Derby can do it, and the celebrations will last all night if they do !
