The end of the year show…

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

So…with only a few hours left before the end of 2006….

a quick look back at highlights/lowlights and thoughts for the year ahead…

The ups

Portsmouth FC and Pagham FC exceeding everyones expectations this season. Good on yer, lads ! Long may it continue

Pagham FC’s website and programme finally turning out as I’d hoped.
David Tennant as Dr Who - the best Doctor since Tom Baker if you ask me.

New CDs from William Orbit, Yusuf Islam and Faithless (although their latest is tosh!)

Peter Jackson’s retelling of the “King Kong” story - an action packed film worth seeing on a big screen.

“Borat” - funniest film I’ve seen this year.

The continued decent weather - will we pay for it in January ‘07 I wonder…

My newest nephew, Harvey - a very proud event for all concerned.

The nonsensical fun had by “Pagham Fans on Tour”
The Downs

The realisation that perhaps “AMG” and I weren’t meant to be after all.

England’s abject showing at the World Cup and in the Ashes series.

Another year has passed and I’ve still not completed “Diablo 2″

The situation in Iraq. It should never have been allowed to get to this stage. Too many people with vested interests in Iraqi oil and reconstruction of the destroyed buildings. Not to mention the complete lack of any weapons of mass destruction.

The illness that befell a very good friend of mine. He knows who he is, and it’s my fervent wish that 2007 allows  him and his wife some respite.

The mysterious passing of so many of our fish in the pond - still not sure how or why, but there’s a very guilty looking seagull flying round here….

The passing of “Barney”, he may have been a rat-on-a-rope, but he was well-loved and will be missed.

The Future

Portsmouth in Europe (and not just on the Dover to Calais Ferry!)

Pagham promoted to Sussex County Division 1

My various projects to bear fruit and allow me to retire to that beachfront property I’ve always promised myself.

Someone to fill the gap left behind by “AMG”.

Skeddy to get a car which doesn’t resemble something produced on a Friday afternoon.

Me to get a car which can, without a following wind, overtake a moped on a hill.

Me to stop buying DVDs, and actually sell some on E-bay instead.

The USA to finally realise that just perhaps, it might be an idea to leave well alone, even when there’s oil involved.

The UK Government to realise we’re European, not the 51st state of the USA.

The UK Government to realise we’re being royally screwed by the EU, and should withdraw as soon as possible.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !

…of this year ? Perhaps…depends on how busy this weekend is…so…just in case…

“Aw….look at the liddle baby”….

Here, making his debut on the weblog is the latest edition to the Rose clan…ladies and gentlemen, I present…

Harvey (aged not very much)

He spent most of Christmas day wondering just what the blooming heck was going on and “Where’s My Dinner?” and “What if I try and climb that tree with all the shiny things on it”

Just not Cricket

So…we chuffed up the cricket again. I can’t be bothered with it at the moment. It’s the middle of winter, we thought we were world beaters when winning the ashes last year. We aren’t. End of.

Film 2006 with Dunworking (A.K.A. “Chronicles of Ner-ner-ni-ner-ner”)

Films I’ve seen this holiday…

“A Scanner Darkly” - a film based on a Philip K Dick book. Used a clever animation technique. I thought the film stank. Incomprehensible plot, although the “Manga” style filming was effective.

“Chronicles of Narnia” - This year’s fantasy block-buster. Enjoyed, although having read the Chronicles of Blarnia earlier in the year meant I didn’t take the film as seriously as I might have done. Good extras on the Special Edition too.

“Jabberwocky” - Found this in the bargain bin at a local store - another excellent Terry Gilliam film. Recommended to fans of “The Time Bandits”

“Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place” - Not strictly a film, I know. Superb spoof of those cheesy 1970s/1980s sci-fi series like “Blakes 7″. Acting is awful, plot lines ripped off, special effects risible. The whole thing is hilarious.

“Book Club”

Recommended reading for fans of “Grumpy Old Men”….both volumes of Is it just me or is everything sh*t ?” - pages and pages of points to ponder, and to get you scratching your chin going “hmmmm”.

“Eat my Goaaalllll”

Providing the weather behaves itself (which at the time of writing is looking dodgy), Pagham entertain local rivals Sidlesham tomorrow afternoon. With players swapping between the clubs at frequent intervals, it’s sometimes like two Pagham sides playing each other. Should we get a win, it’ll mean we can cement our place at the top of the table. And the matchday programme is damn good ‘n all ;)
